Groen Sal Dit Doen!

Emiel Bezuidenhout, VF Plus candidate for Ward 83, Strand

Why I'm Standing

I am a young LLB graduate with a strong interest in law, politics and public administration. My academic focus was on constitutional law, labour law and political philosophy. I believe that law and good government exist to protect people's freedom, dignity and property rights.

As a Christian, my values are shaped by my faith and by a commitment to truth, justice, accountability and service. I believe political leadership should not be about personal advantage, but about the responsibility to serve a community faithfully and with integrity.

I was involved in establishing the VF Plus Helderberg branch and currently serve as its secretary. That experience strengthened my interest in local politics and community service.

As a councillor my focus will be a cleaner, sewage-free and better-managed Helderberg, with fair tariffs, better service delivery, proper maintenance of infrastructure and a safer community. I also want to protect our coastline, our mountains, our green spaces and the natural environment. I want to be a strong voice for Ward 83, one that listens, asks questions, demands accountability and pursues practical results.

My Priorities for Ward 83

01

Fair Tariffs and Accountable Spending

The issue

Households in Strand feel the weight of municipal tariffs and charges and expect to see what those charges deliver.

What I will work for

Question tariff and budget decisions in Council, ask for clear reporting on ward spending and press for accountability where value is not delivered.

02

Service Delivery and Infrastructure Maintenance

The issue

Roads, water and sewerage infrastructure in the ward need consistent maintenance rather than repeated emergency repairs.

What I will work for

Escalate faults promptly, monitor outstanding work, and advocate for planned maintenance and faster response where failures repeat.

03

A Cleaner, Safer, Sewage-Free Helderberg

The issue

Sewage pollution, litter and safety concerns affect the coastline, mountains and green spaces that Strand residents rely on.

What I will work for

Advocate for enforcement and for infrastructure that stops pollution at source, coordinate with the wider Helderberg team on shared water issues, and support responsible protection of public open space.

My Ward Is Part of a Bigger Helderberg.

My first responsibility will be to the residents of Ward 83. But I will not work in isolation. Our VF Plus candidates across Somerset West, Strand and Gordon's Bay intend to cooperate across ward boundaries and strengthen the Helderberg's voice within the City of Cape Town Council.

A vote for your local candidate strengthens the whole Helderberg.
