VF Plus is standing in seven Helderberg wards. If you are not sure which ward your address falls into, the City of Cape Town's official lookup will tell you from your street address.

How do I check that I am registered, and where do I vote?

Accepted Answer

Registration and your voting station are handled by the Electoral Commission (IEC), not by any party or candidate. You can confirm your registration details and voting station on the IEC website. We deliberately do not publish election dates or deadlines here, because the official sources are the ones that stay current.

What am I actually voting for in a municipal election?

Accepted Answer

In a metro like Cape Town you cast two votes. One is for a ward candidate, who becomes the councillor for your ward if they win it. The other is a party vote, which helps decide how many further seats each party receives on the Council. Your ward vote is the one that decides who directly represents your street.

Does voting for a local candidate really help the wider Helderberg?

A ward councillor sits in the City of Cape Town Council and can raise questions, scrutinise decisions, vote on Council matters and push local priorities. Every additional Helderberg councillor who is willing to raise the same recurring problem makes it harder for the basin's concerns to be passed over.

What can a ward councillor actually do for me?

Accepted Answer

Represent residents, escalate service-delivery failures, communicate with City officials, keep track of outstanding complaints, ask questions in Council and its committees, vote on Council matters, scrutinise budgets and decisions, and advocate for local projects. A good councillor is also the person who keeps asking after a reported problem instead of letting it go quiet.

What can a councillor not do?

Accepted Answer

A councillor does not personally repair pipes, resurface roads or remove structures, cannot instruct City staff to jump a queue, and cannot set the municipal budget alone. Anyone who promises those things is overstating the job. What a councillor can do is make sure your problem is properly logged, correctly routed, publicly raised and followed up.

There is a problem in my street right now. What should I do first?

Log it with the City of Cape Town first, by phone, app or online, and keep the reference number. That reference is what makes the fault official and traceable. Then send the reference and a short description to your ward candidate so it can be followed up and, if it stalls, escalated.

Question 8

What happens after I send a problem to a candidate?

Accepted Answer

It gets logged on our side with your reference number, followed up with the relevant City department, and kept on the list until it is resolved or a clear answer comes back. Where the same fault is reported from more than one ward, our candidates raise it together rather than each chasing it alone.

What are the Helderberg issues you are campaigning on?

Four, drawn from what residents raise most often. Municipal rates, levies and tariffs, and visible value for them. Infrastructure that works, including roads, water and sewerage. Clean water and a clean coastline, where sewage and pollution affect health and the environment. And the lawful, consistent management of public spaces and public land.

The ten-point plan from the 2026 VF Plus municipal manifesto sets out how we vote and act in Council: devolving decisions closer to communities, spending rates where they are collected, fair tariffs, repairing infrastructure, financial accountability, a healthy and safe environment, merit-based appointments and effective oversight. Will VF Plus simply oppose everything other parties propose?

Accepted Answer

No. We intend to support decisions that benefit residents, regardless of which party proposes them, and to challenge decisions that do not. Local government should be judged on results, not on party labels.

If the team works together, will my councillor still put my ward first?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Each councillor is elected by one ward and answerable to the residents of that ward first. Working with the other Helderberg councillors is there to add weight to local work, not to draw attention or time away from it.

Seven VF Plus candidates across Somerset West, Strand, Gordon's Bay and Macassar. Each campaigns in their own ward and each profile sets out who they are, why they are standing and what they will focus on.

Every candidate whose details we have published can be phoned or reached on WhatsApp directly from their profile page, and several have their own Facebook pages. The contact page lists everyone in one place, together with the VF Plus national toll-free line, 0861 700 700.

It is the VF Plus campaign call, and it is kept exactly as it is on both the English and Afrikaans versions of this site. It is a campaign signature rather than a sentence to be translated.
